Forro in the Dark is a dynamic collective of Brazilian expatriates based in New York City. Formed in 2002, they blend the traditional percussion-heavy rhythms of forró with elements of rock, folk, jazz, and country. Their infectious music captivates audiences worldwide, celebrating the vibrant spirit of Brazil while pushing musical boundaries.

Vinicius has performed with his own projects and as a collaborator in important venues such as Dizzy's Club (NY), Smalls (NY), Jazz Gallery (NY), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Bellas Artes (Mexico City), National Sawdust (NY), Blue Note (NY), Duc Des Lombards (Paris), Sunset Sunside (Paris), JazzStation (Brussels), B-Flat (Berlin), Zigzag (Berlin) Bird’s Eye (Basel), Porgy And Bess (Vienna), and others.”

Sunday, June 16, 2024: Brandi Disterheft

Canadian Grammy (JUNO) winning jazz bassist, singer and composer Brandi Disterheft returns to the stage with her intoxicating “Bossa Nova Jazz” project charting on the top 10 Jazz Charts with her new album “Surfboard” featuring jazz master George Coleman and reflects this “double threat’s” innovative live show showcasing a prodigious and rhythmic dexterity on her bass fiddle that is transcended by her ambient and sultry voice. Having mentored under Miles Davis’ bassist Ron Carter and performing classics from the Bossa Nova 1960’s jazz craze of Carlos Jobim to the American Songbook arranged in her trio’s unique fashion, Brandi’s music “is a fount of irresistible propulsion and ever-surprising rhythmic colors and contours.” –Jazztimes. São Paulo born and New York based guitarist/composer, Vinicius Gomes explores the dialogue between modern jazz and Brazilian music, as registered on his debut album, “Resiliência” (2017-Blackstream), “Changes” (2020-FreshSound), in collaboration with spanish saxophonist Santi De la Rubia featuring drummer Jorge Rossy and bassist Doug Weiss and the most recent release “HOME” (2022-Greenleaf) in duo with Korean singer Song Yi Jeon.

Sunday, June 30, 2024: Tony Davis & Trio Querencia

Trio Querencia uniquely approaches classic Cuban and Brazilian music by blending in each member’s modern jazz stylings. Along with their original compositions, the group explores its distinct arrangements of Cuban son, timba, boleros, Brazilian baião, choro, samba, bossa nova, and Latin-influenced renditions of classic jazz repertoire. Guitarist/vocalist Tony Davis leads the group, featuring Raul Reyes on bass and Daniel Prim on drums/percussion.”
