SUMMARY:Front Row Presents: Sitting Still Film Screening in Partnership with Araiys Design
DESCRIPTION:About the Film\nAt a time in our culture where the notion of “profit over people” is a pervasive one\, Laurie Olin is battling to see beyond faulty economic models and misguided politics. He is fighting to bring sustainability to vast ecological systems and create more livable cities. When environments are suffering\, so are the people. How we see and think about place is the first step toward improving the world we live in. The stakes are high. With more and more evidence of climate change\, we find ourselves at a critical juncture in human history. SITTING STILL creates an original way to see and understand our place in the continuum. Olin’s life story of growing up in Alaska on the edge of the American frontier\, living abroad and challenging belief systems around designing in nature\, and his lifelong work transforming environments for social good become the launching pad for exploring critical themes around the sociology of public spaces and how they directly impact our human experience. Learn more at www.sittingstillmovie.com \nAbout the Filmmaker – Gina Angelone\, Director/Producer\nGina has lived and worked throughout Europe\, South America and Southeast Asia making films and writing fiction. But despite reaching a milestone few musical acts ever come close to attaining\, Guster’s ninth studio LP reveals a band fully in touch with the voracious creative energy that first inspired their formation. A major leap forward for lead vocalist Ryan Miller\, guitarist Adam Gardner\, drummer Brian Rosenworcel\, and multi-instrumentalist Luke Reynolds\, Ooh La La ultimately matches that wide-eyed spirit with a newly heightened sense of confidence\, conviction\, and commitment to the raw sincerity that’s made them so beloved. \n“In all the time we’ve been together we’ve never really felt our age as a band—we’re still so hungry\, still excited to create\,” says Gardner. “A lot of people have told us they’re amazed at how democratic our process is\, but I think that’s a big part of why we’re still able to open up this space where the ideas just flow. It also helps that we’ve built a relationship with our fans where there’s a real sense of trust and a desire for us to keep growing and keep pushing ourselves. It’s such a gift that allows us to be truly free\, and to make whatever music we want to make.” \nThe Mountain Goats\nJenny from Thebes began its life as many albums by the Mountain Goats do\, with John Darnielle playing the piano until a lyric emerged. That lyric\, “Jenny was a warrior Jenny was a thief Jenny hit the corner clinic begging for relief\,” became “Jenny III\,” a song which laid down a challenge he’d never taken up before: writing a sequel to one of his most beloved albums. \nThe Mountain Goats’ catalog is thick with recurring characters—Jenny\, who originally appears in the All Hail West Texas track bearing her name\, as well as in “Straight Six” from Jam Eater Blues and Transcendental Youth side two jam “Night Light\,” is one of these\, someone who enters a song unexpectedly\, pricking up the ears of fans who are keen on continuing the various narrative threads running through the Mountain Goats’ discography before vanishing into the mist. In these songs\, Jenny is largely defined by her absence\, and she is given that definition by other characters. She is running from something. These features are beguiling\, both to the characters who’ve told her story so far and to the listener. They invite certain questions: Who is Jenny\, really? What is she running from? Well\, she’s a warrior and a thief\, and\, this being an album by the Mountain Goats\, it’s a safe bet whatever she’s fleeing is something bad. Something catastrophically bad. \nJenny from Thebes is the story of Jenny\, her southwestern ranch style house\, the people for whom that house is a place of safety\, and the west Texas town that is uncomfortable with its existence. It is a story about the individual and society\, about safety and shelter and those who choose to provide care when nobody else will. \n  \nAccommodations and Dining\n\n\nAccommodations: Make it a weekend getaway with a luxurious stay at Canoe Place Inn & Cottages.\nDinner: To make your evening even more special\, enjoy dinner at Good Ground Tavern\, just steps from the ballroom.\nMurmrr Summer Music Series: Stay tuned for more upcoming live music\, comedy and entertainment all summer long at Canoe Place.\n\n\n  \n \n  \n

Releasing September 15th\, 2023 on Hall’s own 3 Rivers Label\, the highly-anticipated record delivers a future-folk masterpiece anchored in Hall’s beloved style\, while simultaneously bringing a refreshing new sound to the forefront. Created solely within the confines of a barn-turned-studio in his own backyard\, this record marks the first of Hall’s career where he helmed every aspect of the production process. Penned without external influence and from a purely creative and explorative space\, Trevor Hall and the Great In-Between unveils raw and unfiltered facets of Hall that remain undiscovered. \nHailing from a small island in South Carolina\, Hall was raised in a musical family and began formally studying classical guitar in high school at Idyllwild Arts Academy. Quickly thrust into the world of major labels\, Hall signed a record deal at the young age of sixteen. After realizing the restrictive nature of such deals\, he decided to pave his own way and reclaim his artistic freedom. Starting in 2017\, he began releasing music independently. Since then\, Hall has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and amassed billions of streams\, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless listeners. His memorable live performances have graced venues around the world\, including multiple sold-out headline shows at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheater. Hall currently resides in Colorado with his wife\, author & photographer Emory Hall\, as well as his son. \n\n  \nDaniel Rodriguez\nWhether it was personal heartbreak or the seismic shift in his daily life when exiting his longtime band\, Elephant Revival\, Daniel Rodriguez’s latest album\, Harboring Pearls\, is a snapshot of a singer-songwriter simply trying to navigate the choppy waters of existence to the best of his ability. “I preserved my own sanity. I preserved my own integrity\,” Rodriguez says. “There’s something about not being comfortable\, knowing my integrity and ethics\, knowing my path and where I’m headed—I’m fueled by not choosing to be comfortable.” Captured by producer David Baron at his Sun Mountain\, situated atop a ridge amid the ancient Catskill Mountains of Woodstock\, New York\,Harboring Pearls was co-produced by Wesley Schultz\, lead singer for indie-folk juggernaut The Lumineers. \n“Now? It’s just me and the storm\,” Rodriguez says. “All the chips are in on this one piece of art. Am I crazy? Do I trust myself? What I am doing? It’s this lingering feeling that I have no idea where it’s headed\, but I need to go wherever it’s headed.” That internal\, more so existential quest of self\, of purpose and pursuit\, lies at the core of Harboring Pearls. Numbers like of “El Dorado\,” “Anything and Everything” and “Graduation” paint vivid indie-folk pictures of Rodriguez’s journey unfolding in real time. “It’s about transcendence\, and that’s been such a wild process\,”Rodriguez says. “There’s been this pressure cooking with the songs. A lot of coal being compressing into diamonds.” And what resulted was this steadfast platform of trust and radiance offered by Schultz\, one where Rodriguez felt comfortable standing on\, the culmination of those sessions being this cultivation of truth and sacrifice the lies within each selection of Harboring Pearls. “You’re on your own and these are your pearls\,” Rodriguez says of this latest batch of tunes. “And you’ve been harboring them for so long. It’s time to pass them out.” \n

SUMMARY:Murmrr Presents: Steel Pulse - 50th Anniversary Tour
DESCRIPTION:Details \n\nPre-Party 6PM-8PM\nDoors at 7pm/Show at 8pm\n\n  \nAbout Steel Pulse\nBearing witness to the accelerating negativity of global affairs\, British reggae powerhouse Steel Pulse exemplify musical vengeance to halt the disarray of humanity. The band’s twelfth studio production\, titled Mass Manipulation\, reflects four decades committed to bettering mankind through music. Steel Pulse songs and lyrics continue to engage controversial topics of racial injustice and human rights on a global scale. Themes are as potent and relevant today as they were at the beginning of their career. Hailing from Birmingham\, England\, Steel Pulse emerged in 1975 with music that provokes thought toward global unification. Songs like “Chant a Psalm” have landed on Rolling Stone’s Top 200 Best Songs list of the 1980s\, and the six-time Grammy nominated group won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for Babylon the Bandit. Lead singer and guitarist\, David Hinds’ creativity\, human persona\, and visionary views are revealed through inspiring compositions that capture the effects of the African Diaspora. As reggae revolutionaries\, Steel Pulse is revered by the younger generation of artists and remains a powerhouse on stages around the globe. Through the example of Mass Manipulation\, Steel Pulse demonstrates the endless possibilities that come from breaking down the walls of systemic greed and nurturing the fellowship of mankind. \n  \nPre-Party\, Accommodations & Dining\nPre-Show Parties: \n\nThis summer\, the good times begin before the show even starts. SUMMARY:Surfrider and Canoe Place Present A Free Screening of Plastic People
DESCRIPTION:“Plastic People is one of those essential state-of-our-world documentaries.” – Owen Gleiberman\, Variety\nPlastic People investigates our addiction to plastic and the growing threat of microplastics on human health. Almost every bit of plastic ever made breaks down into “microplastics.” These microscopic particles drift in the air\, float in all bodies of water\, and mix into the soil\, becoming a permanent part of the environment. \nNow\, leading scientists are finding these particles in our bodies: organs\, blood\, brain tissue\, and even the placentas of new mothers. What is the impact of these invisible invaders on our health? And can anything be done about it? \nAcclaimed author and science journalist Ziya Tong takes a personal approach by visiting leading scientists around the world and undergoing experiments in her home\, on her food\, and her body while collaborating with award-winning director Ben Addelman (Discordia\, Bombay Calling\, Nollywood Babylon\, Kivalina v. Exxon) in an urgent call to action for all of us to rethink our relationship with plastic. \n

SUMMARY:Dark Star Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Murmrr Presents: Dark Star Orchestra  \n  \nNeed to Know \n\nThis event is standing room only.\nDoors and Ballroom Bar Opens at 7pm/Music begins at 8pm\nGA ticket-buyers must purchase a parking pass if planning on driving/parking\nWe invite you to join us before or after your show for bites\, dinner and/or drinks at Good Ground Tavern\, our restaurant on property\, operated by Union Square Events\, a Danny Meyer concept. Reservations suggested\, walk-ins welcomed.\n\n  \nAbout Dark Star Orchestra  \nPerforming to critical acclaim for over 20 years and over 3000 shows\, Dark Star Orchestra continues the Grateful Dead live concert experience. Their shows are built off the Dead’s extensive catalog and the talent of these seven fine musicians. On any given night\, the band will perform a show based on a set list from the Grateful Dead’s 30 years of extensive touring or use their catalog to program a unique set list for the show. This allows fans both young and old to share in the experience. By recreating set lists from the past\, and by developing their own sets of Dead songs\, Dark Star Orchestra offers a continually evolving artistic outlet within this musical canon. Honoring both the band and the fans\, Dark Star Orchestra’s members seek out the unique style and sound of each era while simultaneously offering their own informed improvisations. \nDark Star Orchestra offers much more than the sound of the Grateful Dead\, they truly encapsulate the energy and the experience. It’s about a sense of familiarity. It’s about a feeling that grabs listeners and takes over. It’s about that contagious energy…in short\, it’s about the complete experience and consistent quality show that the fan receives when attending a Dark Star Orchestra show. \nDark Star Orchestra has performed throughout the entire United States\, including a sold out debut at Colorado’s Red Rocks Park & Amphitheater\, plus shows in Europe and the Caribbean with the band touching down in seven different countries. DSO continues to grow its fan base by playing at larger venues for two and even three-night stands\, as well as performing at major music festivals including Bonnaroo\, Milwaukee’s SummerFest\, The Peach Music Festival\, Jam Cruise\, Wanee Festival\, SweetWater 420 Festival\, Mountain Jam\, and many more. \nIn addition to appearing at some of the nation’s top festival\, Dark Star Orchestra hosts its own annual music festival and campaign gathering\, titled the “Dark Star Jubilee”\, currently in its eighth year where DSO headline all three nights and are joined by a mix of established and up and coming national touring acts. Beyond the shores of the United States\, DSO has taken its internationally-acclaimed Grateful Dead tribute to the beaches of Jamaica in the dead of winter for the past six years\, with their event appropriately titled ‘Jam in the Sand’. Featuring an ocean-side stage\, DSO sets up camp to perform shows for four nights along the tropical sands of an all-inclusive resort\, selling out the event each year for hundreds of lucky attendees. \nFans and critics haven’t been the only people caught up in the spirit of a Dark Star show. The band has featured guest performances from six original Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh\, Bob Weir\, Bill Kreutzmann\, Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay\, Vince Welnick\, Tom Constanten and even toured with longtime Dead soundman\, Dan Healy. Other notable guests have included Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman of Phish\, Keller Williams\, Warren Haynes\, Steve Kimock\, Peter Rowan\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot and many more. \n“For us it’s a chance to recreate some of the magic that was created for us over the years\,” keyboardist and vocalist Rob Barraco explains. “We offer a sort of a historical perspective at what it might have been like to go to a show in 1985\, 1978 or whenever. Even for Deadheads who can say they’ve been to a hundred shows in the 90s\, we offer something they never got to see live.”

Reservations suggested\, walk-ins welcomed.\n\n  \nAbout Grace Potter  \nBack in summer 2021\, acclaimed singer\, songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, band leader\, and rock and roll performer Grace Potter took off on a solo cross-country road trip that would soon bring a life-saving reconnection with her most unbridled self. The Vermont-born artist spent the coming weeks crashing in roadside motels and taking time each night to transcribe the song ideas she’d dreamed up behind the wheel\, often scrawling those notes onto the backs of postcards and motel notepads. After completing two more trips on her own—Potter flew to Nashville for a series of recording sessions that resulted in her most magnificently unfettered collection of songs to date. Equal parts fearlessly raw memoir and carnivalesque fable\, Mother Road is a body of work that goes far beyond the typical album experience. \n“Mother Road is a reframing of my understanding of my history\,” she says. “It’s an important and powerful perspective I’d never had until this record\, and the heart of it is my journey to self-reliance and a sense of worthiness.” The follow-up to 2019’s Daylight—a release that earned GRAMMY nominations for Best Rock Album\, and Best Rock Performance—Mother Road (due August 18\, 2023\, via Fantasy Records) fuses elements of soul\, blues\, country\, and timeless rock-and-roll with masterful abandon. Produced by Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age\, Slash\, and Weezer) and recorded at RCA’s famed Studio A\, the LP is an essential insight into the endless nuances of life and love and belonging. And after thousands of miles on the road\, countless nights at seedy motels\, and a heartrending return home\, Potter has made her way to the kind of creative freedom that leaves both artist and audience indelibly altered—a freedom that’s undeniably led to her masterpiece.

In 2018\, he released his debut full-length album\, The Capitol Studio Sessions. \nBorn in the Pittsburgh suburb of West Homestead\, Pennsylvania in 1952\, Goldblum grew up in a Jewish family of Russian and Austrian descent. Interested in performing at a young age\, he moved to New York at age 17 to pursue acting and studied at the acclaimed Neighborhood Playhouse with noted acting coach Sanford Meisner. After making his Broadway debut in the 1971 Tony Award-winning musical Two Gentlemen of Verona\, Goldblum moved into television and film work\, appearing first as a thug in the 1974 Charles Bronson action flick Death Wish\, as well as small but well-received roles in Nashville\, Annie Hall\, and The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. His breakout roles came in 1983’s The Big Chill and 1986’s The Fly\, after which he solidified his reputation as a box office star with his roles in 1993’s Jurassic Park\, and 1996’s Independence Day. He has taken roles in critically lauded smaller films like 2002’s Igby Goes Down\, 2004’s A Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and big-budget titles like Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. \nAlong with acting\, Goldblum has also pursued his love of music. He first started out on piano as a child. By his teens\, he was playing shows\, a sideline he continued to nurture alongside his acting career. In the ’90s\, he joined with musician and producer John Mastro to form the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra (purportedly borrowing the name from a family friend in Pittsburgh). For over 20 years\, the pianist and his band have worked regularly around Los Angeles. In 2014\, they also launched a weekly residency at New York’s Carlyle Hotel. In 2018\, Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra released their debut studio album\, The Capitol Studio Sessions\, on Decca Records . Included were guest spots from trumpeter Till Brönner \, and singers Imelda May \, Haley Reinhart \, and Sarah Silverman . The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. A year later\, he issued another star-studded sophomore album\, I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This\, which featured guest appearances from Fiona Apple \, Sharon Van Etten \, Anna Calvi \, and others. ~ Matt Collar\, Rovi \nWe invite you to join us before or after your show for bites\, dinner and/or drinks at Good Ground Tavern\, our restaurant on property\, operated by Union Square Events\, a Danny Meyer concept.
