The founder of the “Jazz Age Lawn Party” which occurs on Governors Island every year: Michael Arenella is cut from the same cloth as the genteel horn players of yesterday who also happened to be iconic singers. Equal parts troubadour and instrumental virtuoso, he does both with a deeply individual and soulful delivery. Strongly rooted in the Swing, Bebop and Bossa Nova songbook, the swinging precision of his trombone playing wonderfully compliments his wistful baritone singing voice.
