They Don’t Make ‘Em Like This Anymore
Author Foster Hirsch Joins Front Row with his book “Hollywood and the Movies of the Fifties”
It was a time of the atomic bomb, blacklisted talent, Cinerama and the birth of television. And Hollywood was not ready for all its close-ups. In his new book, Brooklyn College Film History teacher Foster Hirsch ‘plots’ the fall of the studio system, the Cold War, and the boom of post World War II. Many of the movies reflected seismic shifts in the Left Coast. But no one could have foreseen the revolution that was coming. Often in something called VistaVision. For lovers of movies and because Canoe Place has often hosted some of Hollywood’s biggest names, this is a night not to be missed.
A book signing will follow the presentation.
