Alexia Bomtempo

Start of 4th of July weekend right with a performance from acclaimed Brazilian-American singer Alexia Bomtempo and her Trio, performing 7PM-9:30PM at Good Ground Tavern at Canoe Place. Alexia will be joined by Jake Owen on guitar and Stéphane San Juan on percussion. Her repertoire includes a variety of Portuguese, English, and French-language songs, highlighting jewels of the classic Brazilian Bossa Nova and American songbooks.

Summer Saturday Jazz: Michael Arenella

The founder of the "Jazz Age Lawn Party" which occurs on Governors Island every year: Michael Arenella is cut from the same cloth as the genteel horn players of yesterday who also happened to be iconic singers. Equal parts troubadour and instrumental virtuoso, he does both with a deeply individual and soulful delivery. Strongly rooted in the Swing, Bebop and Bossa Nova songbook, the swinging precision of his trombone playing wonderfully compliments his wistful baritone singing voice.
