Front Row Presents: 1776, and Long Island’s Role in the American Revolution

Join us in the Grand Ballroom at Canoe Place as historian, writer, and New York Times contributor Terry Lavin explores the people, battles, and intelligence networks that defined Long Island’s pivotal role in 1776 and the founding of the United States. Through stories of the Battle of Long Island, the legendary Culper Spy Ring, and the families of Long Islanders, including signers to the Declaration of Independence — Lavin brings to life the individuals and events that shaped the American Revolution. Ballroom doors open at 5:30 PM / Presentation begins promptly at 6 PM.

About Terry Lavin

Terry Lavin is a historian, writer, and New York Times contributor whose work focuses on New York City, Long Island, and American history. A frequent lecturer on regional history — including the Hamptons and the storied history of Canoe Place Inn — Lavin returns to Canoe Place for his fourth appearance. He holds a master’s degree in history, and currently is a professor of American history at Seminole State College and Valencia College in Florida
